Policy on the Possession and Use of Electronic Devices in School
Learn about our policy on the possession and use of electronic devices in school, including expectations and guidelines that promote responsible use, minimise distractions and support a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The guidelines are aligned with policies from the Ministry of Education (MOE) Singapore and are established to maintain a safe, orderly, and focused learning environment at Frontier Primary School. They set clear expectations on students’ responsibilities and boundaries, reinforce provisions outlined in the Student Handbook and school assemblies, and ensure that technology—when used by teachers—is applied purposefully to support teaching and learning while minimising distractions.
Guidelines to Learning at Frontier Primary School
1. Learning at Frontier Primary School adopts a range of pedagogical approaches, including the purposeful and guided use of technology during lessons. Devices such as laptops and iPads are deployed by teachers to support learning where appropriate.
2. Students are not required to bring any personal electronic devices, as all necessary devices are provided and managed by the school through the ICT Department. Such devices are not essential in the primary school setting.
3. The use of devices in school is carefully regulated and aligned with MOE guidelines, including recommended screen time, to ensure that technology supports learning in a balanced and developmentally appropriate manner.
Policy on Possession and Use of Electronic Devices
1. Students are strictly not allowed to bring electronic devices to school. This includes mobile phones, smartwatches with communication and/or photo-capturing capabilities, and all other personal computing devices. All such items are deemed unauthorised unless prior approval has been granted by the school.
2. Any unauthorised devices found in a student’s possession will be confiscated and managed in accordance with school procedures. (Please refer to “Acceptable Use Policy for Use of EdTech Resources” in the Student Handbook for full details.)
3. The school reserves the right to conduct checks on students’ belongings, including bags, as part of its discipline and safety protocols to ensure compliance with school rules.
Personal Safety of Frontierers
As advised by the Singapore Police Force, members of the public should avoid using electronic devices, such as mobile phones and smartwatches, when walking or crossing roads, as such usage may distract them from surrounding traffic conditions and the movement of vehicles.
Students are expected to remain vigilant at all times and take responsibility for their own safety and that of others. The key concerns are as follows:
1. Safety Risks in Public Spaces
The use of mobile phones and smartwatches (e.g. texting, listening to music) while walking or crossing roads significantly increases the risk of accidents.
2. Risk of Theft
Students carrying mobile phones, smartwatches, and other valuable devices may be vulnerable to theft, including snatch theft or robbery.
Personal devices pose a significant distraction to students through calls, messages, social media, and games, which can hinder their focus and learning progress. We seek parents' partnership in ensuring your child adheres to these guidelines to maintain a safe environment.
