Environmental Science CCA

CCA Information:

To inculcate responsibility in students to take good care of the environment through recycling activities, gardening and outdoor learning journeys / exhibitions.

Students will help to create awareness in the school to keep the school environmentally friendly.

CCA Objectives:

Students will learn to:

  • Instill a sense of responsibility for the environment and commitment to protect and preserve it.

  • Create awareness about green environment in school and advocate to maintain it.

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the 3Rs (Reduce, Recycle and Reduce), energy, water conservation and waste management.

  • Educate and cultivate an appreciation and interest in the environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CCA

Environmental Science CCA is involved in helming all Green Schools initiatives and activities. Each CCA member will have to go through various programmes that align to Green Schools effort over the course of their CCA from Primary 3 to 6. There are 4 broad themes that students will undergo over their 4 years in the CCA.

Theme: Gardening

The gardening theme involves all Environmental Science CCA students. CCA members will learn about gardening ranging from the basic to the advance level. Various interesting programmes and activities for the different levels have been planned for as listed below.

Theme: Zero Waste Movement

The Primary 3 and 4 students will learn about the Zero Waste movement. CCA members are introduced to the terms recycling and upcycling and are given opportunities to apply what they have learnt by assisting to maintain the recycling corner at the canteen. They will also be involved in some craft works using recycled materials and be tasked to present their learnings to others.

Theme: Sustainability Movement

The Primary 5 and 6 students will learn about the concerns over the environment and the need to protect and care for the environment. Primary 5 CCA members will be introduced to water and marine life conservation while the Primary 6 CCA members will be introduced to climate change. They will be given the opportunities to conduct research and present their research to others during the CCA lessons.

Theme: Green Ambassadors

CCA members who display leadership skills and outstanding performance during the CCA will be identified and given the opportunities to be green ambassadors of the CCA. As green ambassadors of the CCA, they are to promote and raise awareness amongst their peers of the green initiatives by the school. The level of achievement as shown below is progressive. Only outstanding CCA members will be promoted to the next level of achievement.
